Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced Delhi government is starting an oxygen concentrator bank (OCB) service, which will help those Covid patients who are dying due to lack of oxygen.
Addressing a virtual press conference, Delhi CM said his government has created OCB’s in every district in Delhi, with the availability of 200 oxygen concentrators. He said any Covid patients who are home isolated and need oxygen, Delhi government will send oxygen concentrator directly at the doorstep within 2 hours, along with a person with knowledge of machine so that he can teach proper use of a machine to family, Kejriwal said.
How to order oxygen concentrator?
The Covid positive patients who are not a part of the government’s isolation program can dial 1031 and be a part of it and request for an oxygen concentrator. Kejriwal said, before providing the oxygen concentrators to any patent, the team of doctors will first make sure whether the patient needs the machine or not.
Delhi CM said, his government will also provide the concentrator to hospitalized Covid patient who has recovered from Covid-19 and come back home but need oxygen for a few days, as per the advice of the doctors.
According to the health ministry, In April, Delhi has witnessed a sudden surge in covid cases, faced the worst health crisis since the pandemic has begun. Hospitals were running short of oxygen supplies on a daily basis. Many serious Covid patients have lost their lives due to the shortage of life-saving gas.
However, there has been improvement in the Covid situation in Delhi as the city’s daily requirement of medical oxygen dropped to 582 metric tonnes (MT) from 700 MT, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Thursday. Sisodia has urged the Central government to provide the surplus supplies of medical oxygen to other states who are in need of it.
