Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said in an appearance on Fox News late Thursday that the network has "a particular obligation" to tell the American public that the 2020 presidential election was not stolen.

The big picture: Cheney's words came a day after House Republicans removed her from her leadership position in the GOP conference following her continued criticism of former President Trump's election lies.

  • Cheney was one of the few House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump back in January.

What she's saying: "We all have an obligation, and I would say Fox News especially, especially Fox News, has a particular obligation to make sure people know the election wasn't stolen," Cheney told Fox News anchor Bret Baier.

  • "We need to make sure the American people recognize and understand that the election wasn't stolen, that we shouldn't perpetuate 'the big lie,' and that there's real danger," she added.

Between the lines: Fox News has become a target of several lawsuits that claim the network knowingly spread election misinformation to its audience.
