Kakching, May 13 2021: Subsequent to spike in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in Chandel district headquarters and Greater Chandel area, total lockdown has been imposed in these areas with effect from 4pm of May 12 to 4pm of May 19 .

Chandel-based CSOs namely Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO), Naga Students' Union Chandel (NSUC), Naga Women Union Chandel (NWUC), Naga Chiefs' Association Chandel (NCAC), Maha Area Chiefs' Association Chandel (MACA) and Japhou Bazaar Authority arrived at a resolution to impose the lockdown after a thorough discussion during a meeting.

The lockdown will not cover vehicles carrying essential commodities including medical oxygen, pharmacy, clinic, hospital, power supply, fire service, public health engineering services, COVID-19 management and other essential services like bank and government employees.
