TRICHY: A 50-year-old man in Trichy, who accidently fell into a trench dug for underground drainage (UGD) at Kailash Nagar in Kattur was rescued on Friday. The man has been identified as Kailasam. As soon as he fell into the 20 feet deep trench, a six-member team led by station fire officer (transport) P Saravanan conducted an hour long rescue operation and rescued Kailasam by afternoon on Friday. A fire service personnel said that the man stepped on the soil dug from the trench and slipped into it. He further said that the soil covered Kailasam upto his neck when the rescue officials reached the spot. The team first started removing the soil. They also used the bucket of an earthmover vehicle to prevent further landslide. The team pulled him out and admitted him to Mahatma Gandhi memorial government hospital (MGMGH) for treatment.
