HUBBALLI: Here's good news for residents of Hubballi-Dharwad who are finding it difficult to go to the market during the lockdown to buy groceries and vegetables. The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has made arrangements to get the daily needs at people's doorsteps.
All that people have to do is visit HDMC's website and place orders for vegetables and groceries. A total of 1,239 shops in different zones and areas have been listed on the website with their contact details.
Suresh Itnal, commissioner, HDMC, said that the initiative has been taken to curb the morning crowd in the market and make it a hassle-free experience for people to make essential purchases.
"We also asked vendors to deliver the orders within the stipulated time from 6am to 10am. The vendors were asking for passes to move around in the city for door delivery. We told them there is no need for passes. Delivery boys from the groceries shops should carry a GST certification copy and vegetable vendors should carry the vendors' pass provided by the HDMC. The public should place the order a day in advance," the commissioner added.
"It's a good initiative by the HDMC to provide a convenient platform for the public to purchase things. However, the HDMC should also see to it that the vendors don't charge exorbitantly," said Shobha Prasad, a resident of Kotalinganagar, in Hubballi.
