A D.C. police officer who was captured by the Jan. 6 mob on the U.S. Capitol and almost overwhelmed to dying is looking out Republican lawmakers who’re overtly denying the violence that occurred that day.
Officer Michael Fanone instructed CNN’s Don Lemon:
“I’m not all for stepping into political squabbles. I’m not a politician. I’m not an elected official. I don’t anticipate anyone to present two shits about my opinions. However I’ll say this: These are lies. And peddling that bullshit is an assault on each officer that fought to defend the Capitol. It’s disgraceful.”
The mob, egged on by then-President Donald Trump, was making an attempt to cease the certification of the 2020 election and maintain Trump, who misplaced, in energy. Many Republicans have since tried to defend Trump, and so they’ve canceled anybody within the celebration who dared to criticize him. State and native GOP our bodies have censured Republicans for talking out, and this week, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) was purged from celebration management within the Home for blaming Trump for the rebel and calling out his lies concerning the election.
For the reason that assault, a number of GOP lawmakers have gone into full denial mode, with Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.) claiming “there was no rebel” and insisting the footage from that day appeared like “a traditional vacationer go to.”
Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), who was blamed by his circle of relatives for serving to to incite the riot, known as the insurrectionists “peaceable patriots” who have been “harassed.”
Rep. Jody Hice (R-Ga.) even claimed that the true victims have been Trump supporters.
And Trump has mentioned the rioters have been “hugging and kissing” the police.
Video from Fanone’s bodycam broadcast on CNN ― footage he watched with Lemon ― confirmed in any other case. He was assaulted by the mob, overwhelmed with a flagpole and zapped with a stun gun:
