Even if the whole world is shaken by the pandemic, the above towns are untouched by the novel coronavirus and not a single positive case of Covid-19 was reported in the first wave of the pandemic or the second wave.
An assistant nurse midwife (ANM) of the center, Gattupalli Rajeshwari, who regularly visits the villages as part of her duty, said that no Covid positive case has so far been reported in the above towns.
The reason, according to her, is the withdrawn lifestyle of the tribe and their eating habits. Rajeshwari spoke to Telangana today on Friday, saying: “The villagers, who are part of the Guthikoya community, never risk it unnecessarily. Their houses and residences are normally located at a distance from each other ”.
In addition, the tribes consume the seasonal fruits that the forests give them and they eat many herbs that they knew about and are available in the forests when they suffer from any disease. Of course, their immunity levels are a bit high due to their hard work and exposure to sunlight and clean air, she added.
‘During my visits to the villages, I explain to them how important it is to have face masks or to at least cover their noses and mouths and maintain physical distance when they go out. And their response to the advice is good, “she said.
G Saidulu, Kurnapalli sarpanch, noted that the tribes grow their own food and depend on forest products to feed themselves. An important aspect in protecting the tribes against covid-19 keeping their distance from the outside world, he remarked.
Similarly, a town of Kothur in Laximidevipalli Mandal near the headquarters is also safe from the Covid second wave, as so far there has been no positive case in the town which has 270 inhabitants.
