The Hawks raided the Collins Chabane municipality amid allegations of fraud and corruption in the construction of municipal offices, valued at over R170 million.

On Thursday, Hawks officers conducted a search and seizure operation at the municipality in Limpopo, as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of fraud and corruption, according to Hawks spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke.

"The municipality allegedly awarded a tender, worth R173 million, to the companies without following due processes. The tender was for the construction of municipal offices in the Malamulele area," explained Maluleke.

During the search, laptops and documents related to the tender were seized.

"No arrests were made, but investigations are still ongoing," said Maluleke.

The raid comes days after the municipal manager, Tsakani Ngobeni, appeared in court after being linked to alleged VBS bank corruption.

Ngobeni is accused of depositing R120 million into an account at the now-defunct bank. He also allegedly received gifts, including a vehicle, in exchange for the deposit.
