TikTok Showing 'Never-Ending Stairway' to Women's Restroom in Bar Goes Viral

This bar's never-ending stairway is the ultimate leg day for its patrons.

A woman has gone viral on TikTok for her humorous video showing the seemingly endless stairway to a local bar's restroom.

Katie Hulmes, or @kate.hulmee on the platform, recorded her long journey to the women's restroom during a recent trip to McCooley's Sports Bar in Liverpool with her boyfriend. She begins the video joking about how the trek to this restroom rivals other pubs in the United Kingdom with long stairways.

"You all thought Wetherspoons toilets were bad, watch this then," she says.

She then proceeds to walk down the deep stairwells, many of which curve and spiral into other staircases. Even in moments where the stairs seem to end, another flight of stairs waits at the end of long hallways.

"F*****g dying already," Hulmes jokes in text overlay on one clip of her descending the stairs. "You thought it was over? Naaaa."

"That's my month of cardio done," Hulme captioned the video, which has now been viewed more than 3.6 million times.

Hulme told Newsweek that the reason her journey to the restroom took so long was because of the building's layout.

"We were situated on the newly opened rooftop bar due to not being able to sit inside yet cause of COVID rules and I went to the women's toilets from the rooftop," she explained.

During her first trip to the basement-level restroom, her boyfriend worried about how long she'd been gone.

"I explained how far away the toilets were and the next time I went I made the video to show him as video evidence," Hulme told Newsweek.

The more than 575,000 people who liked the video found the predicament to be very humorous.

"At this point, I'd rather get a fine for public urination," one viewer wrote. Another joked that by the time they got to the restroom, "I'd be sober by then."

Several even made comments about where the stairs actually led her.

"Fun fact: the bar is in the U.K. but the toilets are actually in Australia," one joked. "Basically walked down to the earth's core," another added, with Hulme responding, "I was like... okay does this end or?..."

Others joked that if that was her trek to get to the bottom of the stairs, her journey back upstairs would feel even longer.

"The pain going up... was like a full leg work out mate," Hulme wrote in the comments.

Hulme told Newsweek she had no idea her video would resonate with so many people, and she has gotten quite a kick out of the creative responses in the comments section.

"I have loved reading through them," she said. "I remember asking the man who worked there where the toilets were and he replied 'just down the stairs and to the left' LITTLE DID I KNOW."

She even said that the bar's general manager reached out about the video, and he too found it very entertaining.

"[He] is thinking of redecorating the stairwell wall with quotes from the comment section on the video which hasn't been set in stone yet!" she told Newsweek. "It's just something we have discussed privately."

Hulme also addressed some of the comments concerned that inebriated patrons may end up injured with the number of stairs required to get to the restroom.

"The manager has stated that he has plans to get a ladies toilet on a floor closer to the rooftop, but you're sat on the roof of a building so it's expected really for there to be lots of stairs to get to the ground floor," she told Newsweek.

She called the experience "a journey and a half," but that it certainly didn't take away from the rest of her time at McCooley's.

Hulme is not the only bar patron to have gone viral online for her unique experience caught on video. In April, the woman who voiced the Disney character Mulan was recorded singing a song from the movie, much to the amazement of the others around her.
