Ghaziabad/Noida: As many as 2,572 people in
Ghaziabad and 2,546 in Gautam Budh Nagar — in the 18-44 age group — got vaccinated against
Covid-19 on Wednesday. Notably, the daily target for this category is 3,100 and 2,800 in Ghaziabad and Noida, respectively.
Officials said that 3,511 people in the 45-plus category and 2,078 in the 60-plus age group were inoculated at 54 centres across Ghaziabad.
However, only 16 centres were arranged for recipients who are aged between 18 and 44 years. Officials said that a large number of people are visiting
vaccination centres without prior appointment and being turned away.
On average, 30-40 people are being sent back from the larger centres.
“There is a lot of enthusiasm among the youth for getting vaccinated. However, it is necessary to get a time slot and a security code during the online registration. A person can be vaccinated only after showing the details at the centre,” added an official.
In Noida and Greater Noida, 16 centres for young people and eight others to facilitate vaccination of those above the age of 45 were operational on Wednesday. A total of 2,355 people in the 45-59 age group were vaccinated while 1,579 senior citizens in Noida got inoculated.
During this week, Ghaziabad has created the capacity to vaccinate only about 45,000 recipients across all categories. Similarly in
GB Nagar, a total of 36,000 doses have to be administered by Sunday.
The quota for the vaccine in the next week will be decided by the senior officials of the Uttar Pradesh government by this weekend and fresh stock will be dispatched to the two districts through the Meerut divisional commissionerate.
