Lokesh urges AP CM to cancel 10th class exams

Vijayawada, May 13 (UNI) Telugu Desam Party National General Secretary and MLC Nara Lokesh on Thursday wrote a letter to Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, urging his Government to cancel the 10th class examinations altogether considering the continuing rampage of the Covid-19 epidemic.
Mr Lokesh told the Chief Minister that the 10th exams were fast approaching and they were scheduled to start all over the State in just three weeks from now.
On the other hand, the deadly infections were rising unabated during the second wave. The students and their parents were now under extreme stress because of the Coronavirus threat on the one side and the examinations on the other, Mr Lokesh said.
Recalling the decisions made in other States, Mr Lokesh urged the AP Government to follow their example and give pass certificates to all the 10th class students without conducting the exams.
Over 12 States, including the neighbouring Telangana, have cancelled the 10th class exams in the beginning of the second wave of infections itself. The students and parents have brought to the notice of the TDP in the online meetings about the pressing need for cancellation of the exams, he pointed out.
The TDP MLC pointed out that there was still uncertainty when exactly these raging epidemic infections would come down to give some relief to the people. The 10th exams were cancelled when there were just 5,000 Covid active cases in the State last year. Now, the active cases rose to 2 lakh but the Government was not taking this into consideration, he regretted.
Decrying the Government's adamant attitude, Mr. Lokesh cautioned the Chief Minister that it would be very dangerous to force 6.7 lakh students to come to the exam centres at this critical time of highly contagious infections. Due importance should be given to their opinion of parents and teachers and the exams should be cancelled without any second thoughts, Mr Lokesh said.
