IIT Madras startup sets Guinness record in upskilling people in Python programming

Chennai, May 05: Amidst pandemic & strict lockdown, the country witnessed the largest online workshop with "AI-For-India."

The second wave of Novel Coronavirus has left a tremendous impact all over India. Most of the operations & sectors are closed, whole numbers of infected patients are culminating day by day. In the education sector, the conventional ways of classes & real-world practical learning have been halted indefinitely, and online courses, Google Meetup & Zoom, have taken over.

Amidst all this, GUVI, an IIT-M incubated e-Learning startup, was able to not only attempt but set a new Guinness world record for "Most Number of users to take programming lessons in 24hrs." GUVI coordinated 'AI-For-India' between April 24-25th and had participation from various backgrounds like school kids, high school students, college graduates, job seekers, and experienced IT & Non-IT professionals. The event was in collaboration with AICTE, the national-level council for technical education, under the Department of Higher Education.

As students found themselves caught in the throes of bleak lockdown, GUVI helped them with a workshop on "how to build a facial recognition app from scratch" and became part of a Guinness world record event. More than 6 Lakh+ users across 28 states registered for their highly anticipated "AI-For-India" event: and around 1.12 Lakh users completed building the face recognition app in the online workshop.

The event was co-organized by BUDDAI, the clinical and revenue cycle automation platform that has solved Healthcare's most complex financial challenges. The participants had to pick up a slot and language of their convenience. The event was available in 4 diff languages: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and English. The event also featured keynote speakers from top industry experts and some of the biggest names in the public education sector, which offered their insight into the IT, Business, Entrepreneurial & Programming landscape.

The event also introduced discounted pricing for the AICTE and NEAT-selected GUVI product on monthly and yearly subscription services. Now Tech aspirants can avail a professionally curated 100+ course catalog for a minimal amount of ₹399/month or ₹1499/year; the fee is remarkably lower than their counterparts who charge the same amount of money for a single course!

The course catalog ranges from Cloud Computing, Full-Stack Engineering, Web-Development, Data Science & Analyst to Computational thinking, Cybersecurity, and Ethical hacking. GUVI also has its gamified practice platform-CodeKata, Webkata & MicroARC for interactively facilitating assessments. Registered users are eligible to download the globally recognized certifications upon completion, which they can post to their portfolio for a better professional reach.

Although the numbers speak for themselves, GUVI achieved what it intended with "AI-For-India": to impart knowledge of Python Programming & AI at the grassroots level, a vision imparted by Ms. Sridevi(late), Cofounder, and Ex-COO of GUVI. One such instance was witnessed in Adhanakottai, of Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, where the local community arranged a dozen devices for students to attend the free online workshop. A handful of students were seen sitting on the porch under dim light, wired in their mobile & laptops for programming lessons.

"The images are compelling and signify that India has a pool of rising talents with a zeal for learning. Our country can become one of the Global cradles for disruptive tech & AI innovations. To make it happen, we have to ensure that education is available to everyone at an affordable cost and not just remain an elite affair. "- Arunprakash, Founder and COO, GUVI.

With regards to the above vision, the startup also announced that the courses on Python and Face recognition would be offered for FREE for learning until the end of May. The certification for that Python course will be available on paying a minimal fee of Rs. 1770/- as IIT-Madras issues it. It may come as good news for anyone who is constantly struggling with following a topic in an unstructured and scattered manner. Now users don't have to look for multiple resources, and they can visit one platform and start learning anything related to Computer Science and IT.
