Hyderabad: Migrant workers began leaving Hyderabad because a ten-day lockdown in Telangana took effect. They were seen at railway and bus stations in the city.
According to a report in the Times of India, they opt for private buses, pickups, etc. to reach their homeland. Although the government has instituted a ten-day closure, migrants are worried because they think it could be extended.
One of the migrants, Vivek Lal, said he had made a decision to leave the city after being locked up in Telangana.
Even before the introduction of lock-in in the state, many migrants left the city for fear of nationwide lock-in due to an increase in COVID-19 cases in the country.
However, workers who are on the construction sites or labor camps did not leave the city as construction and project activities where workers find themselves or labor camps are exempt from lockdown.
The migrants respond to every development in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic due to the bitter experience of nationwide shutdown last year. During the first wave, many unemployed migrants walked hundreds of miles to reach their homeland.
Meanwhile, the number of active COVID-19 cases in Telangana fell below the 60 thousand market. The state reported 4,723 cases and 31 deaths on Wednesday during the 24-hour period that ended at 5:30 p.m.
