Manipur records 666 cases, 17 deaths in last 24 hours

Imphal, May 12 2021:
Topping the then highest figure of 600 cases recorded in a single day on May 7, Manipur recorded 666 positive cases, including 7 CAPF personnel in the last 24 hours to take the cumulative figure of positive cases to 37,036 .
The death toll in a single day continues to remain high with 17 persons falling victim to the virus in the last 24 hours.
This is three short of the highest single day death tally of 20 recorded on May 11 .
The steep spike in cases and deaths comes in line with the forecast of the University of Michigan which predicted that the North East region of India could see a virus surge.

The 659 positive cases from the general population are from Imphal East (171), Imphal West (252), Thoubal (34), Bishnupur (48), Kakching (60), Ukhrul (15), Churachandpur (43), Chandel (3), Senapati (13), Tamenglong (4), Kangpokpi (6), Kamjong (2), Tengnoupal (1) and Noney (7), said the COVID-19 Common Control Room in its daily statement today.
The virus continued to exact a heavy toll on human lives with 17 people falling prey in the last 24 hours.
The deceased include one 57 year old woman (Imphal West), 69 years (male, Imphal East), 67 years (male, Imphal East), 81 years (male, Churachandpur), 51 years (male, Churachandpur), 55 years (male, Thoubal), 64 years (male, Imphal East), 55 years (male, Imphal East), 56 years (male, Imphal West), 54 years (male, Bishnupur), 58 years (male, Imphal East), 74 years (male, Imphal East), 67 years (female, Imphal East), 64 years (male, Kakching), 84 years (female, Imphal West), 76 years (female, Thoubal) and 65 years (male, Imphal East).
They passed away at Shija Hospital (3), District Hospital (DH), Chura-chandpur (2), DH Thoubal (1), Raj Medicity (1), RIMS (4) and JNIMS (6) .
With the addition of 17 more, the cumulative figure of deaths now stands at 526 .
On the other hand the total number of discharged persons in the last 24 hours stands at 358.They were discharged from CAPF (12), Home Isolation (269), RIMS (3), JNIMS (12), RD Wing (12), BB (9), SHRI (15), CCC Bishnupur (5), CCC Ukhrul (10) and CCC Churachandpur (11) .
The cumulative figure of positive cases is 37,036 (general population-33,361 and Central security personnel-3675) while the cumulative figure of recovered cases is 31,238 including 3497 Central security personnel.
With the spike in positive cases in the last couple of days, the recovery rate has dipped to 84.34 percent.
The total number of people vaccinated against the virus as of today stands at 2,82,958 .
In the last 24 hours a total of 1068 D type Oxygen Cylinders and 407 B type Oxygen Cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities in the State.
On the other hand, of the 63 air passengers who were tested on arrival today, none tested positive.
