Premier League Broadcast Deal: Premier League secures £4.8bn TV deal with extra £100m trickle-down funds

Premier League Broadcast Deal: Premier League has secured a whopping £4.5billion domestic TV deal with Sky, BT and Amazon. The existing broadcasters are set to seal the renewal of their rights for the next three seasons starting from 2022 to 2025.

However, according to a DailyMail report, rival broadcasters like DAZN have expressed unhappiness at not being able to big for the rights as there were no auctions held for it. Premier League has sought aid from the Boris Johnson-led Government in a bid for financial stability and to ensure no setback in their economic projections.

As per the Mirror report, the government have provided security to the league that this process — of not conducting the auctions — has not breached any competition law.

The formal announcement of the deal is likely to be made after the completion of the current season while the shareholders meeting on Wednesday is expected to sign off on the renewal of the TV deal.

Premier League broadcast deal: What is the current Premier League TV deal?

PL as of now enjoys the most profitable domestic TV deal of any league but the current deal was up for renewal and had been set to expire in 2022.

The broadcasters shared 200 matches between them when stadiums were open as usual, with Sky broadcasting 128, BT 52 and Amazon 20 in the United Kingdom.

Premier League Live on Sky Sports – 128 Matches

Premier League Live on BT Sport – 52 Matches

Premier League Live on Amazon Prime – 20 Matches

However, the implications of the pandemic and fans not being allowed to attend matches for an extended period of time saw every match in the division broadcast live.

All three broadcasters were entitled to a greater number of matches proportionately while there was also a small selection of matches broadcast free-to-air on the BBC.
