Early betting markets are suggesting that the Springboks will start their series against the British & Irish Lions series as underdogs.
The Lions will play three Test matches against the Boks on 24 July, 31 July and 7 August.
The Springboks are the current world champions having triumphed famously in the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, but they have not taken to the field since then because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
They are set to take on Georgia in two home Tests in July that will serve as their first action in a year and a half, and that will serve as their only competitive preparation for the Lions series.
According to local bookmakers Sportingbet, the Boks will start the Lions series as outsiders.
A lot can change in the weeks and months ahead, but the Springboks are currently at 6/5 to win the series while the Lions are favourites at 4/6.
A drawn series, meanwhile, can be taken at 25/1.
The likeliest outcome, according to the odds, is a 2-1 series win for the Lions.
A 3-0 series whitewash to the Springboks can currently be bought at a long 6/1, while a 3-0 series win for the Lions comes in at 7/2.
