CHENNAI: Global technology firm Zoho Corporation on Thursday donated Rs 5 crore to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Public Relief fund towards Covid-19 relief.
The company is also providing oxygen supplies and medical equipment worth Rs 13 crore to various private and public hospitals supporting patients from the economically weaker section of the society. Zoho plans to scale this support to the rest of India.
Other initiatives by the company include a care facility on its Estancia campus in Chennai for employees and their families, vaccination drives, and community kitchens for rural districts around Chennai and Tenkasi.
"To meet the high demand for oxygen supplies, Zoho helped government hospitals in Tamil Nadu get timely refills for 200 cylinders. Additionally, 200 new cylinders have been ordered. Distribution of 700 oxygen concentrators is under way for government hospitals and corporation healthcare centres," Zoho said in a statement.
Additionally, the software company has distributed 150 HFNCs (high flow nasal cannula) to various hospitals across the state. Eighty CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machines have been distributed to Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital. As many 300 beds have been procured for distribution to Stanley and Kumbakonam government hospitals.
For its employees and their families, Zoho has set up a 30-bedded facility supervised by an in-house doctor to provide basic assistance for relatively mild cases of Covid-19.
Earlier in April, Zoho reopened its office kitchens in Chennai and Tenkasi to prepare and distribute food safely as per Covid protocols to local villages. Currently, the company serves 30,000 meals a day in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Gudalur and plans are under way to scale up to one lakh meals a day and to expand the initiative to Namakkal, Coimbatore and Salem.
Zoho said it is also supporting various NGOs that are distributing provision kits to the underserved in Tier II and III towns. "2,000 kits have been distributed until now, with plans to add another 12,000 soon within Chennai." it said.
