VashtiDance Theater: Workshop + Lecture-Demonstration

VashtiDance Theater, founded by Artistic Director Fatima Logan-Alston, exists to uplift, empower, inspire, and educate our community through dance and music performances, workshops, and events that demonstrate exceptional artistry and quality educational instruction.

This online workshop and lecture-demonstration will be a practical exploration of contemporary dance study and performance from the perspective of Contemporary African and African Diasporic traditions. The workshop component will explore VashtiDance Theater technique and immerse the participant in the dance skills that inform our contemporary practice. The lecture-demonstration component will illustrate the process from the skills practiced in study to how they are organized and presented in performance.

VashtiDance, inspired by two meanings of the name Vashtibeautiful and thread — blends the vernacular and classical to create a contemporary perspective that is genuine and authentic. Since its creation in 2011, VashtiDance continues to create dance and music that combines the aesthetic and technical values of classical disciplines with evolving aesthetics of Africa and its Diaspora.
