The gap between two doses of Covishield can be extended to 12-16 weeks, says a government panel; no altercations to the interval of Covaxin
A government panel, on Thursday, has suggested that the interval between two doses of Covishield can be extended to 12-16 weeks. Well, this is the second time in three months that the interval has been extended.

A government panel, on Thursday, gave a recommendation regarding the interval between two doses of Covishield.
It says that the gap between two doses of Covishield can be extended to 12-16 weeks. However, no such changes have been made to the interval of Covaxin.
In addition to this, the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization has specified that pregnant women can get to choose their vaccine (either Covishield or Covaxin). Furthermore, lactating women will be able to get the shots after delivery.
According to the Union Health Ministry’s protocol, vaccination has to be conducted four to eight weeks after the recovery from Covid-19 contagion. Though, pregnant and lactation women are not advised to get the shots.
Although, the recommendations are to be sent to the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration (NEGVA) for approval before they’re actually taken into account or implemented.
“Based on the available real-life evidence particularly from the UK, the Covid-19 working group agreed for increasing the dosing interval to 12-16 weeks between two doses of Covishield vaccine. No change in the interval of Covaxin doses was recommended”, said the sources, as per the reports of PTI.
