Telangana has come to the rescue of the poor who have lost their livelihood due to lockdown.
Starting Friday, the state will serve hygienic meals for Rs 5 at the Annapurna Canteens. The meal will be provided to everyone who ques up for it.
The state has announced that in addition to 140 existing canteens in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area, an additional 102 canteens have been set up to start serving food from May 14.
Various functionaries of the government have advertised the initiative both on the ground and online.
The Municipal Administration and Urban Development principal secretary, Arvind Kumar, was the first to tweet the development and the same was then picked up and broadcast by local television channels.
The chief minister’s son and Telangana’s Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development KT Rama Rao (KTR) took to Twitter and tweeted the initiative.
During the previous lockdown in March 2020 thousands of workers from Telangana walked thousands of miles to reach home because they had no work or money.
GHMC has collaborated with the Hare Krishna Movement Charitable Trust to operates these canteens that cater to the needs of daily-wage earners. Many philanthropic organisations and individuals are paying for the meals of people who cannot afford to buy their meals.
