GUWAHATI: Eminent Assamese litterateur and journalist Homen Borgohain died at a hospital in Guwahati on Wednesday, following post-Covid complications, doctors said.
He was 89 and survived by two sons. He has been separated from his wife Nirupama Borgohain, also a noted litterateur and journalist, for several years.
Borgohain was found to be Covid-positive on April 24 and admitted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, from where he was released on May 7 after testing negative. He fell from bed in his sleep last night and was rushed to hospital where he died, doctors said.
A prolific author and columnist, Borgohain received the Sahitya Akademi award in 1978 for his book ‘Pita-Putra’, which he returned in 2015 in protest against the rising religious and social intolerance in the country. At the time of his death, he was the editor-inchief of Assamese daily ‘Niyomiya Barta’
