Coronavirus: India reports 3,48,421 new cases, toll rise by 4,205 in highest single-day surge
The World Health Organisation said the B.1.617 variant of Covid-19, first found in India, has been detected in 44 countries.

India on Wednesday registered 3,48,421 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally in the country to 2,33,40,938 since the pandemic broke out in January last year. With 4,205 deaths, the toll climbed to 2,54,197. This is the highest single-day rise in toll so far since the outbreak of the pandemic. There are 37,04,099 active cases and 1,93,82,642 patients have recovered so far.
The World Health Organisation on Wednesday said the B.1.617 variant of Covid-19, first found in India, has been detected in 44 countries.
Meanwhile the health ministry on Tuesday said that nearly 90% of the districts in the country were witnessing a high positivity rate of coronavirus cases.
Globally, the coronavirus has now infected 15.90 crore people and killed over 33.12 lakh since the pandemic broke out in December 2019, according to Johns Hopkins University. Over 9.53 crore people have recovered from the infection.
