  • Netflix's new limited series Halston has come under fire by the legendary fashion designer's family.
  • The series stars Ewan McGregor and centres on the life and career of the prolific designer.
  • His family has called the series an 'inaccurate, fictionalised account of famed fashion designer'.

Netflix's new series, Halston, executive produced by Ryan Murphy, has been slammed by the legendary fashion designer's family.

The limited series stars Ewan McGregor and centres on the life and career of the prolific designer.

According to an official synopsis "he leverages his single, invented name into a worldwide fashion empire that's synonymous with luxury, sex, status and fame, literally defining the era he lives in, 1970's and '80's New York — until a hostile takeover forces him to battle for control of his most precious asset the name Halston itself".

In a statement to the Associated Press, the Halston family said they were not consulted and called the series an "inaccurate, fictionalised account of famed fashion designer".

"The Halston Archives remains the only definitive and comprehensive source on the man and his legacy as the personally appointed custodian of his private papers and effects."

Lesley Frowick, his niece and the director of the Halston Archives, told Variety that the family was never contacted about the show.

"Halston's family spreads a wide swath of the world from Greece-all the way to California, and we all collectively are disappointed that people continue to feel compelled to tell salacious and embellish stories on a person's private life when so many of his professional and other life accomplishments were more than most people will ever achieve in their lifetimes."

Netflix has not commented on the backlash surrounding the series, which premieres on Friday, 14 May.
