
- IPID arrested a constable on charges of discharging an official firearm and attempted murder.
- IPID also arrested another constable for allegedly shooting and injuring his girlfriend.
- Both will appear in court on Thursday.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) arrested a police officer on Wednesday for the attempted murder of her partner.
IPID spokesperson Ndileka Cola said the constable, 31, stationed at Ficksburg Police Station in Free State, was on duty, driving with her colleague, when the boyfriend stopped by the vehicle to speak to her.
"While he was there, the girlfriend went to her boyfriend's vehicle and checked his cellphone. It is alleged that the officer then went to her boyfriend and confronted him for cheating on her. As they argued, she allegedly took out her official firearm and fired shots in the direction of her boyfriend, but missed him."

Cola said the police sergeant, present at the scene, took the firearm from the officer.
IPID arrested the constable for discharging an official firearm and attempted murder.
She is expected to appear in the Ficksburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
Also on Wednesday, IPID arrested a 29-year-old constable, from Mount Fletcher police station in the Eastern Cape, for allegedly shooting and injuring his girlfriend a week ago.
The constable took the girlfriend to hospital after shooting her. He then allegedly lied and said she was shot by people who were trying to rob them.

Cola said the man was charged with attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, and perjury.
He was expected to appear in the Mount Fletcher Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
