    (Bloomberg) -- Cathie Wood’s miserable month continued on Tuesday, as her flagship exchange-traded fund extended declines and its assets dropped below $20 billion to the lowest since January.The Ark Innovation ETF (ticker ARKK) slid 1% as of 9:47 a.m. in New York. Caught in a broad tech selloff, the product has fallen for nine of the past 10 sessions, a retreat that accelerated on Monday in the biggest slide in about seven weeks.Tesla Inc., the fund’s biggest holding, was down 3.5% on Tuesday. Teladoc Inc., also heavily weighted in the ETF, dropped less than 1%.The stock rotation out of expensive-looking tech names is proving tough for Wood and her firm, Ark Investment Management, with investors pulling more than $500 million from the main fund in May so far.Big bets on the likes of Tesla and Bitcoin lured billions to Ark’s products, but more recently investors have been souring on the kind of pricey shares the money manager favors in companies with often unproven technologies.   • JPMorgan to bring all staff back to office in England - memo

    JPMorgan will step up the return of all of its employees in England to working at least part of their week in its offices from June 21st, according to a memo seen by Reuters on Tuesday. The U.S. lender will still cap occupancy at 50% in its main London and Bournemouth hubs, it said, and the plans are dependent on there being no changes to government plans to ease remaining COVID-19 related restrictions. "We expect in the weeks that follow that June date, all employees in England will be in the office on a consistent schedule," the bank said.

  • Billionaire Howard to Return Cash From Secretive Hedge Fund

    (Bloomberg) -- Billionaire Alan Howard is returning money to investors from the secretive hedge fund that he personally runs.He’s redeeming clients in the Brevan Howard AH Master Fund that he started four years ago to make bigger and riskier bets, according to people with knowledge of the matter. Howard will continue to manage capital for the firm’s two other money pools, the people said, asking not to be identified because the details are private. It’s not immediately clear if Howard is shutting the fund altogether.The move marks a reversal for the manager who was in talks late last year to raise another $500 million in the fund after having doubled investors’ cash in the early days of the pandemic. The firm has always tried to keep every detail of the fund top secret. It’s unclear how much money it runs currently, and removing external investors means that Howard’s personal track record will remain private.A spokesman for Jersey-based Brevan Howard Asset Management, run by Chief Executive Officer Aron Landy, declined to comment.Howard is among a number of macro hedge fund managers who started their own funds to make bolder bets following years of sub-par performance. He and a group of other money managers at Brevan Howard that run their own funds have played a critical role in turning around the business through improved performance. Last year, the firm had a record year with one fund gaining 99%.That’s helped the firm, which saw its assets collapse to about $6 billion from more than $40 billion in 2013, lure back clients. It managed $14.6 billion at the end of March, according to an investor document.Brevan Howard AH Master Fund was one of the firm’s most profitable, surging about 100% amid the volatility sparked by the pandemic in the early part of last year. In 2018, the fund made 37% in just one month.   • Sony Expects PlayStation 5 Supply Crisis To Loom Till 2022: Bloomberg

    Sony Group Corp (NYSE: SONY) warned an analyst group regarding PlayStation 5 supply crisis till 2022 partly due to the semiconductor chip crisis, insinuating sales target constraints for its latest games console, Bloomberg reports. Sony had sold 7.8 million console units through March 31, 2021. The FY22 sales target is 14.8 million units. The popular PlayStation 4 has sold over 115.9 million units to date. CFO Hiroki Totoki does not expect to catch up with the demand surge despite securing additional devices and additional production of PS5 next year. Sony announced a buy back up to $1.8 billion (200 billion yen) shares after the March quarter profit fell short of analyst estimates. The company expects the operating profit to decline by 4% in FY22. Sony shares have lost around 8% since the April 28 earnings report, after rising 75% over the previous year. Sony needs to ramp up production as soon as possible and ensure consoles on store shelves, Totoki said. Totoki dispelled analyst concerns over pandemic induced remote demand saturation by emphasizing its market share and reputation, which led to the sales of over 100 million units of the PlayStation 4. Sony’s monthly active users on PlayStation Network declined 4.4% Q/Q to 109 million during the March quarter. The sales of full games also declined during the quarter on a Y/Y basis. Last week Nintendo Co Ltd (OTC: NTDOY) warned regarding a production impact from the component crisis. The company’s internal management’s guidance for console production lies between 28 million - 29 million consoles, above its official target of 25.5 million.   • Airbus puts supply chain executive at helm of loss-making A220

    Airbus has appointed a senior internal supply chain executive to run its Canadian operation, with responsibility for trimming losses on the A220 jetliner series, in the latest in a series of management changes at the European aerospace group. Benoit Schultz, 48, will take over on Sept. 1 from Philippe Balducchi, a former finance executive who became the first head of the Canadian venture when Airbus bought the CSeries jet programme from Bombardier in 2018 and renamed it A220. Schultz, who was part of the team that ran a ruler over Bombardier's supplier relationships when Airbus rescued it from cash shortages, is currently a senior vice president in the Airbus procurement office, which runs its global supply chain.

    FRANKFURT (Reuters) -Thyssenkrupp is considering an initial public offering (IPO) or a deal with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) for its hydrogen business, Chief Executive Martina Merz said on Tuesday. A 66-34 joint venture of Thyssenkrupp and Italy's De Nora, Thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers (TKUCE) is the world's largest supplier of chlor-alkali membrane technologies used to produce hydrogen. In a call with analysts, Merz said Thyssenkrupp has hired an investment bank to explore strategic options for the business and to come up with proposals by the summer.

    Alphabet Inc's Google has launched international money transfer partnerships with remittances firms Wise and Western Union Co for users of its U.S. payments app, the companies said on Tuesday. Google Pay users in the United States can now transfer money to app customers in India and Singapore, with plans to expand to the 80 countries available via Wise, and 200 via Western Union by the end of the year.     BEIJING (Reuters) -China should implement its commitments to equal treatment for foreign business and abandon "implicit" guidance to replace foreign products with domestic alternatives, the American Chamber of Commerce in China said on Tuesday. In an annual white paper, the chamber, also known as AmCham, which represents 900 companies, also called on the United States and China to communicate more and cooperate on climate change and public health. The relationship between the world's two biggest economies deteriorated rapidly over the past few years over issues ranging from trade to China's response to COVID-19.

    NEW YORK (Reuters) -A Chevron Corp and Phillips 66 petrochemical joint venture imported significant quantities of the toxic chemical benzene into the United States for several years without reporting it to regulators as required by law, according to a company document seen by Reuters. Benzene is a known carcinogen that is used in the production of pesticides, detergents, plastics, and other synthetic materials, and companies must report imports of 25,000 pounds (11,340 kg) or more to help regulators track potential exposure. Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC imported "reportable quantities" of the chemical between 2013 and 2020 that it did not immediately disclose to regulators, according to the document, a letter from the company's attorney to non-profit watchdog group Center For Environmental Health dated April 21.

    British Airways-owner IAG said on Tuesday it would raise 825 million euros ($1 billion) from a convertible bond, the group's latest move to strengthen its balance sheet as travel remains at very low levels during the pandemic. IAG, which also owns Aer Lingus, Iberia and Vueling, has a weekly cash burn rate of 175 million euros while most of its fleet is grounded due to restrictions, meaning its focus over the past year has been on raising funds. On Tuesday, it said its convertible bond issue would boost its liquidity by around 825 million euros.

    (Bloomberg) -- Parabolic jumps in digital tokens such as Ether, Dogecoin and Binance Coin are outshining Bitcoin, prompting more questions about whether that segment of the cryptocurrency sector is ripe for a reckoning.The rallies have contributed to a slump in Bitcoin’s share of the $2.6 trillion crypto market to 43% from about 70% at the start of 2021, a metric that for strategists at JPMorgan Chase & Co. and DataTrek Research LLC may be a warning sign of investor excess in a range of digital tokens.Bitcoin’s waning dominance carries echoes of “froth” to the extent it’s being fueled “by a rally in other cryptocurrencies driven more by retail demand,” a JPMorgan team led by Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou wrote in a note Friday. DataTrek’s co-founder Nicholas Colas has indicated that history suggests tokens outside Bitcoin can drop “pretty quickly” when Bitcoin’s share hits 40%.Plenty of commentators have been fretting for some time that a stimulus-fueled peak is at hand in cryptocurrencies -- only to see them rally even more. But the worry is hard to shake in a sector that defies traditional investment analysis.The share of the largest cryptocurrency could be declining because investors are getting more comfortable with a wider array of tokens. Alternatively, retail traders may be chasing quick, speculative gains.“Even if you don’t invest in the space, this is worth tracking,” DataTrek’s Colas wrote in a recent note. He added that with more than $2 trillion now invested in virtual currencies, “a meaningful reset lower could also affect more traditional financial assets like equities.”For the JPMorgan team, the possible retail-driven froth in cryptocurrencies is a reminder of late 2017, when a crypto boom peaked.Ether RecordAmong the most notable moves in the crypto market Monday was Ether’s jump past $4,000 for the first time after a climb of more than 2,000% in the past year.
