Leasing can be an affordable, practical route into having your own private car, but it's not always easy to tell the good deals from the duds.
The experts at our sister magazine What Car? work hard to find you the best pay-monthly schemes, taking into account mileage allowance, montly outlay, contract length and initial deposit. We'll be bringing you the best deals they find from a different segment each week.
Looking to buy, not lease your next car? Autocar's new used car deals section can help you find a great price on a nearly-new model
This week, compact SUVs:
1. Range Rover Evoque D165 2WD
£997 deposit, £332 per month, 48 months, 8000 miles per year
This new-generation Evoque is more spacious, technically advanced, luxurious, refined and handsome, and it deserves its class-topping billing. The D200 diesel is the best engine but don’t ignore the hybrid P300e.
2. Volvo XC40 T3 Momentum
£890 deposit, £297 per month, 48 months, 8000 miles per year
There’s a reason you see so many of these on the roads: the XC40 has loads of kerbside appeal, while inside it looks and feels like the genuinely premium motor it is. There are no diesels available; instead, a choice of hybrid or non-hybrid petrols or a pure EV.
3. Mazda CX-5 2.0 SE-L
£745 deposit, £248 per month, 48 months, 8000 miles per year
The CX-5 is one of the best-handling SUVs in the class and the driver’s choice. It’s practical, spacious and good looking, too. The recent facelift brought Mazda’s latest infotainment system and the new 2.5-litre petrol engine first seen on the Mazda 6.

Are people actually spending this on a lease for a car? £500/mo for a 2.0l BMW!? £650/mo for a 4-pot Merc?! These seem like crazy numbers for distinctly average cars!
If you really cannot wait, there are plenty available from specialist dealers with delivery mileage, if you are prepared to pay a £2K premium.
They are ridiculously priced anyway. Better to wait for 3 years until they have depreciated to a sensible price.
The problem with the GR Yaris (however desirable it may seem), is that if you order one now, you won't see it until 2022!!
The entire 2021 allocation is now sold out, sorry guys.
