However, some big tech companies have decided to give a miss to the mobile trade show this year. Consumer electronics giant Samsung has announced that it will not be attending the event in person this year.
Citing safety concerns of its employees, the company said that it will join the event virtually.
Samsung also said that the health and safety of its employees is the company's priority and it cannot risk it at any cost.
On the other hand, The Verge reported that Lenovo has also decided to ditch MWC 2021 this time. The company confirmed to The Verge that it will not be attending the event in person.
Earlier this month, Google also announced that it will not exhibit at MWC this year.
In an official statement, Google said, "Following our current COVID-19 travel restrictions and protocols, Google has made the decision to not exhibit at Mobile World Congress this year. We will continue to collaborate closely with GSMA and support our partners through virtual opportunities. We look forward to this year’s activities and seeing you in Barcelona in 2022."
Apart from this, other notable companies like Nokia, Sony, Ericsson and Oracle have also decided not to attend the event in-person this year.
In February this year, GSMA confirmed that it will go ahead with holding the MWC 2021 in person in June. Attendees in Barcelona will require a negative Covid-19 test result (within 72 hours) and testing will be available at the venue.
