BENGALURU: Canadian Kannadigas have turned out to be saviours for people in rural
Karnataka by sending oxygen concentrators.
Distressed by what's happening, Canadian Kannadigas connected with Additional Director General of Police Seemanth Kumar Singh and sent 15 oxygen concentrators for government hospitals in the first phase.
Nandakumar Chowdappa, a techie in Toronto said, "We wanted to do something and heard that oxygen facilities were badly needed in small towns and rural areas."
Kiran Bharthur, a businessman in Toronto, said, "We raised funds to buy oxygen concentrators. Within 48 hours, we mobilised 15,000 Canadian dollars. There are several Kannadiga associations here but when this fund-raiser was launched, everyone joined hands. We bought oxygen concentrators and dispatched them through the NGP Sewa Canada. They'll received by Bhajan Global Impact Foundation in Karnataka and dispatched to government hospitals."
Seemanth Kumar Singh said, "We have used police to deliver oxygen concentrators. People who approached me to help migrant labourers last year have contacted us this year too."
Kiran added, "We heard about Seemanth's work last year when his mobile number was virtually a helpline number for hundreds of migrant labourers. We had interacted with him. It's more practical to send oxygen concentrators than just money." "The initiative is still on and we dispatched the first consignment. We'll send whatever people require," he added.
Seemanth said 15 oxygen concentrators have been installed in Kolar, KGF, Chikkaballapura, Doddaballapura, Tumakuru and Ramanagara government hospitals.
