Instagram has added a Pronouns feature
Photo and video-sharing app Instagram has added a new feature called Pronouns that lets users add up to 4 pronouns on their profile. The feature would make it possible for users to address each other with pronouns which would be new for the Instagram platform. You have the option to display the pronoun publicly or save the setting only for your followers. The feature has been launched in select countries but Instagram hasn’t issued a list of countries where the feature is available yet. It certainly has plans to expand the feature to its app in more countries.

Those users for whom the feature is not available now can fill out a form to get it and send it or just add the pronoun to their bio. The feature has been present in some other apps from before and even Facebook has a limited set of pronouns enabled.

The new feature comes on the heels of Facebook facing a coalition of 44 US Attorney Generals who are against its “Instagram for Kids” platform. Instagram for kids will allow children under the age of 13 to use Instagram, a proposal that has been met with resistance from the Attorney Generals on the grounds of mental health and privacy, who have urged Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg not to launch it. As of now, a kid under 13 years of age can have his/her own Instagram account if that account is under the supervision of and is being managed by a parent or guardian.
