Amritsar, May 11

Thieves are having a field day in private colonies located on the Amritsar-Attari Bypass Road here. The residents are peeved over this while the police are looking the other way. In a latest incident, an unscrupulous element entered two houses in the Veer Enclave here late last night and decamped with cash and mobile phones. The incident was captured in a CCTV camera in which the accused is seen coming out of the house by jumping over the wall after committing the crime.

Charanjit Singh, a resident of the enclave, said the thiefs entered six houses and committed thefts at two of them, including the house of a granthi (Sikh priest) at the Golden Temple and another of a gun house owner.

“The person appears to be the same who had attempted a robbery here a few months back also,” he said. A complaint was lodged with the police who have started investigation, besides registering an FIR in this connection.

The residents alleged that the private security deputed for the safety seemed to be insufficient as such incidents were being reported regularly.
