MUMBAI: Oshiwara police arrested a 19-year-old boy for sexually assaulting the five-year-old daughter of his neighbour residing in the SRA building in Andheri (West) on Tuesday. The incident occurred when the survivor was alone at home while her mother was in the locality selling vegetables. The accused was nabbed by people from the locality and handed to the police after the survivor informed that she was beaten on her legs and even felt pain on her private parts. If punished, the accused will be sent to 20 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting the five-year-old girl. The incident came to notice when the survivor’s mother returned home in the evening and found her daughter crying in pain. “The accused was produced before the Dindoshi Court on Wednesday and is remanded in police custody. He hails from Bihar and came to Mumbai hardly a month ago. He is jobless. After committing the offence, he went hiding in the locality when people holed out and thrashed him before he was handed over to the police,” said a police officer of the Oshiwara police station. The survivor is shocked after the incident and has been given a medical aide. In the complaint, the survivor’s mother said, “I inquired with my daughter what happened to her legs, she was found scared. She told that the uncle residing on the same floor beat her and also she felt pain in her private parts. We took her to the doctor who confirmed she was sexually assaulted.” Based on the complaint, the accused was arrested late on Tuesday. He has been booked under the Indian Penal code sections 324 (hurt), 376 (rape), 376 (A) (Punishment for causing death or resulting in a persistent vegetative state of the victim), 376 (B) (Punishment for rape on woman under twelve years of age), 506 (criminal intimidation) and under the POCSO act sections 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault), 10 (aggravated sexual assault) and 12 (sexual harassment).
