Manufacturing oxygen is easy, delivering it to patient is hard: Siddharth Jain, director, INOX Air Products

"You can get a vaccine one month late. You can get a Remdesivir injection two days later, but you cannot get oxygen one hour later."

    Synopsis

"If you look at India, there are a total of 70 oxygen production units in the country, but East and West India are producing 32% each. While North, where there is the highest demand, is producing just 13%. So, in order to support North India, oxygen has to move from East and West. But this journey is 1500 kilometres, he said."

As the largest manufacturer of medical and industrial gases in India, INOX Air Products has so far supplied more than 400,000 tons of liquid medical oxygen to over 800 hospitals across India from April 2020 till May 2021. Siddharth Jain, executive director and owner of the company told Gaurav Laghate that while there is enough oxygen, it’s a herculean task to supply it to the end user. Edited excerpts… With over 900,000 people on oxygen
