Microsoft has stopped releasing updates for these Windows 10 versions
Microsoft won’t be releasing updates for its Windows 10 version 1909, with the May 11 Patch Tuesday cycle to be the last, making the last update for this version to be KB5003169. To continue receiving updates from Microsoft, users are required to move on to a newer release.

Apart from Windows 10 1909, Windows 10 version 1803 (Enterprise, Education, IoT Enterprise), version 1809 (Enterprise, Education, IoT Enterprise) and Windows Server, version 1909 (Datacenter, Standard) have also been officially retired on May 11, 2021.

The tech giant has advised users to move on to the releases that continuously get monthly security updates, as a protection against the latest security threats.

“Windows 10, version 1909 is at end of service on May 11, 2021, for devices running the Home, Pro, Pro for Workstation, Nano Container, and Server SAC editions. After May 11, 2021, these devices will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates that contain protection from the latest security threats. To continue receiving security and quality updates, Microsoft recommends updating to the latest version of Windows 10,” said the company.

Microsoft is planning to introduce a new version of Windows 10 soon. It happens to be the Windows 10 21H1, which is expected to be rolled out later this month.

Microsoft has also cancelled its plans for Windows 10X, which it claimed was going to compete with Google’s Chrome OS. An earlier report by The Verge said that 2021 will not see the arrival of Windows 10X. Further, it says that Windows 10X may not ever come and Microsoft could include some features of Windows 10X into Windows 10. The Windows 10X reportedly would’ve had a new simple user interface, the Start menu would’ve been different among other features. Microsoft’s idea was to have a toned-down cloud-based version of Windows. However, it does look like the idea has been shelved.
