Facebook is the world's biggest social media platform and since it has a huge user base, there is also a lot of misinformation spreading across. This is the reason Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and founder of Facebook, has been under pressure to take steps to curb the sharing of false information. It has now announced a new feature with the goal of achieving that.

The team has started testing a new feature that will show an alert whenever a user will share a news article without reading it. This is something that happens very commonly where people end up sharing articles only after reading the caption and headline. They usually do not read the full story and thus share wrong information with others.

As per shared screenshots, the pop-up reads: "You're about to share this article without opening it". It will then give them an option to read the article before sharing. It should be noted that this is simply a pop-up that can be avoided and users can still continue to share articles without reading them.

This feature is similar to what Twitter introduced last year with the same goal. It also shows a pop-up alerting users about now sharing articles without reading them first. As we said above, a user can still choose to avoid the pop-up but it is still a good initiative that can help with the reduction of misinformation spreading.
