The Zirakpur Municipal Council today met to pass a resolution on 100-bed isolation centre for Covid patients in the city among other decisions.

MC president Udayvir Singh Dhillon said community centre at Chhat or Kishanpura village would likely be turned into a Covid centre.

The isolation centre of 100 beds will be for Level 1 Covid patients. SDM Kuldeep Bawa, appointed as the nodal officer, will finalise one of the two venues after reviewing all the arrangements.

The council will spend Rs 20 lakh for the isolation centre.

A resolution was also passed on setting up an electric crematorium in the city at a cost of Rs 93 lakh. As of now, the crematorium at Chhat village has been shortlisted for the purpose.

The repair works worth Rs 24 lakh at various burial grounds of the city too were mooted in the meeting.

There are close to 13 cemeteries in the city out of which select cemeteries would be repaired and necessary construction work undertaken.

According to the state government guidelines, the civic body would spend Rs 20 lakh on providing medicines, oxymeters and other essentials free of cost to the patients, besides ration for the families.

Dhillon said in the first phase, kits worth Rs 20 lakh would be distributed after which more budget would be passed for the purpose.
