"As soon as the boy picked up the grenade, it exploded, seriously injuring the boy," said the officer. He said that Hajong was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
"We do not yet know how the grenade fell there," said the officer. We have started an investigation and soon we will find out the cause of the attack.
The incident occurred within 24 hours of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma`s appeal to the militant group United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) to come forward for talks. The district police said the boy, identified as Sujoy Hajong, succumbed at the nearby Margherita Civil Hospital.
