It is about to be a year since Sony unveiled the PlayStation 5 gaming console but it went on sale starting mid-November. Ever since then, it has been a difficult task to get hands-on with the console as the supply has been way lower than the demand. This stands true for almost all the locations around the world and the way things are going on, there are no signs of any improvement in the near future.

A new report from Bloomberg claims that Sony has warned about PlayStation 5 supply issues to continue even in 2022. It made the revelation in a statement sent to a group of analysts. The company says that it is finding it hard to keep up with the huge demand for the console globally. One of the reasons behind the supply shortage is related to the shortage of components like semiconductors which has been affecting the smartphone industry as well.

Hiroki Totoki, Chief Financial Officer of Sony Corp. has been quoted as saying,

“I don’t think demand is calming down this year and even if we secure a lot more devices and produce many more units of the PlayStation 5 next year, our supply wouldn’t be able to catch up with demand."

Sony has reportedly sold 7.8 million PlayStation 5 units since its launch and until March 31st. It has set a goal of selling a minimum of 14.8 million units during the ongoing fiscal year. It could prove to be challenging for the company because of all the issues that it has been facing. We will have to wait to find the answer to this question though.
