Nifty Pharma pares early gains, index dips nearly 1%; Aurobindo, Divis Lab, Lupin drag

The index pulled back from its record high gains of 14,282.90 witnessed in the early deals.

Pharma stocks pared early gainers and were following the bearish markets bandwagon on Tuesday. Heavyweights dragged the Nifty Pharma index. The resurgence in Covid-19 and vaccination drive continues to fuel investors sentiments in two for this sector.

At around 1.56 pm, Nifty Pharma is trading at 14,040.20 down by 91.65 points or 0.65%. The index pulled back from its record high gains of 14,282.90 witnessed in the early deals.

The index currently trades near the day's low of 14,013.25.

Sun Pharma was the top gainer soaring by 0.9% followed by Cadila Healthcare and Biocon surging over 0.6% each.

On the downside, Aurobindo Pharma took leading plunging by 1.9% followed by Divis Lab and Lupin weakening by 1.8% and 1.7% respectively. Torrent Pharma slipped by 1.6%.

Cipla and Dr Reddy's Lab dived by 1.06% and 0.7% respectively. Alkem Lab dropped by 0.2%.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare today said that a net decline of 30,016 cases recorded from the total active caseload in the last 24 hours for the first time after two months (61 days). Also, after 61 days, the new recoveries outnumber the new cases seen in the last 24 hours.

3,29,942 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours. Karnataka has reported the highest daily new cases at 39,305. It is followed by Maharashtra with 37,236 while Tamil Nadu reported 28,978 new cases. On the contrary, 3,56,082 recoveries were registered in the last 24 hours.

The cumulative number of COVID19 vaccine doses administered in the country has exceeded 17.27 Cr today as Phase-3 of the nationwide Vaccination Drive expands further.
