Child sex abuse fugitive arrested in area

May 10—KERNERSVILLE — A Kernersville man wanted in Maryland on child sexual abuse charges has been arrested.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office arrested Jose Angel Cruz-Ortega, 43, on Friday after receiving arrest warrants from the Prince George County Police Department of Maryland. The charges involve a girl.

Cruz-Ortega was charged with one count each of felony sexual abuse of a minor, felony first-degree assault, felony second-degree rape, felony second-degree assault, felony third-degree sex offense and misdemeanor fourth-degree sex offense with sexual contact.

Cruz-Ortega was being held at the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center in Winston-Salem with no bond allowed.
