Bangalore Police Seizes 3,000+ Vehicles On May 10: Day One of Lockdown In Karnataka
The Police in Bangalore has seized over 3,000 vehicles on the first day of the lockdown in the state of Karnataka. Along with the seizing of vehicles, several motorists were also lathicharged and many others were made to take an oath not to violate lockdown rules.
The second wave of COVID-19 is causing chaos across the country. In order to contain the spread of the virus, several states across the country have imposed curfews or lockdowns. The government of Karnataka too imposed a strict curfew but this failed to contain the spread of the virus.
Hence, it was decided that a complete lockdown would be imposed across the state starting on 10 May for two weeks. The general public was expected to support the lockdown by adhering to the stringent rules. While a majority of the people in the state did adhere to the rules, there were a few who didn't.
In some parts of Karnataka, those who were found on the roads for non-essential activities were lathicharged and in some other places, the punishment was rather embarrassing. The police in Bangalore held the violators for a couple of hours and made them sit on the road.
A video of the violators being made to sit on the road in a socially-distanced manner went viral on social media. This appears to have been shot opposite the Yelahanka Traffic Police station. The very same people were then made to take a pledge saying they would follow lockdown rules and regulations.
The Bangalore police also seized over 3,000 vehicles in the city on day one of the lockdown. These vehicles won't be returned to their owners until the end of the lockdown. It isn't clear at the moment if any challans were generated or if fines were collected.
Thoughts On Bangalore Police Seizing Over 3,000 Vehicles On the First Day Of Lockdown
Bangalore is one of the biggest and most modern cities in the country. However, the spread of COVID-19 in the city amidst the second wave is turning out to be deadly. The police are doing their level best to enforce the lockdown. However, they are having to resort to desperate measures to stop people from coming out. Maybe seizing vehicles will deter others from going out.
