Two navy Vessels transporting the liquid medical oxygen reached the New Mangalore Port (NMP) on Tuesday.
MANGALURU: The oxygen shortage in Bengaluru hospitals is likely to be mitigated to some extent as the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is set to receive 60mt of Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) on Wednesday.
This is part of the medical oxygen from the second tranche of medical aids donated by the Kuwait government to the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS).
Two navy Vessels transporting the LMO, under the Samudra Setu-II operation launched by the Indian Navy, reached New Mangalore Port (NMP) on Tuesday.
The NMP handled INS KOCHI and INS TABAR together carrying five containers of LMO of 20mt each, 70 pallets of oxygen cylinders and two high-flow oxygen concentrators.
Of the 100mt LMO that arrived here on Tuesday, Mysuru and Tumakuru will get 20mt by Wednesday.
Bengaluru had earlier received 20mt of LMO out of the 40mt that arrived at NMP last week, which was donated by the Kingdom of Bahrain to the IRCS.
Binoy Nambiar, the nodal officer for oxygen supply in Dakshina Kannada district said, while all the 100mt of LMO has been distributed to others districts, the oxygen cylinders and high-flow oxygen concentrators will be retained by an agency under the ministry of health in the state and will be distributed as per their directions.
Sources said the oxygen concentrators are likely to be handed over to the IRCS in Dakshina Kannada.
The NMP has so far handled four naval vessels, including Tuesday’s two ships, under the Samudra Setu-II operation.
