Stalin seeks generous contributions from public, NGOs, firms for COVID relief

Chennai, May 11 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin
on Tuesday appealed to the general public and commercial
establishments to donate generously to the Chief Minister’s
Public Relief Fund (CMPRF) towards COVID relief measures
being taken by the government.
The Tamil Nadu government needs the support of industrialists,
leading private companies, NGOs, donors and the people of the
State to control spread of corona and provide relief, he said, in
an official release.
While donations made from within the country would be 100 per
cent exempted under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act, those
from NRIs would be exempted under Section 50 in The Foreign
Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010.
Contributions could be made either through online, credit-debit
cards or through electronic clearing system or through demand
draft, besides RTGS and NEFT.
Mr Stalin said Tamil Nadu was severely hit by the second wave
of COVID pandemic with 1,52,389 under treatment including
31,410 with oxygen facility.
Stating that this wave had significantly impacted the medical
infrastructure and the people, he said the government has been
taking all steps to overcome this challenge and protect the
livelihood of the people, by increasing the beds in hospitals,
ensuring hassle-free supply of life saving drugs, upgrading
oxygen supply and deployment of additional doctors and other
medical staff.
Since the government has to incur additional expenditure at
a time when the state's economy revival was difficult, the
government seeks the support of public.
Noting that disasters like this will provide a great opportunity
for people to display their humanity, Mr Stalin said "this is
the time all of us should join together to win this war".
He appealed to the public, NGOs, industries and business
establishments to generously contribute to the CM's Public
Relief Fund for undertaking COVID relief measures.
He also promised that the funds will be fully utilised exclusively
for setting up oxygen manufacturing and storage facilities, setting
up beds with oxygen supply, cryogenic oxygen cylinders, purchase
of RTPCR test kits, life saving drugs, vaccination and other medical
equipments.
He said names of those individuals and companies donating
Rs ten lakh and above will be published in the form of a press
release and receipts will be issued to all donors.
