Bharat Biotech begins supplying Covaxin to 14 states

Hyderabad: Bharat Biotech launches live stocks Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin in 14 states.

The states are Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

The company in Hyderabad said the stock started based on the grants received by the Government of India.

“Requests have been received from other states and will be processed for distribution based on the availability of 24 × 7 supplies,” tweeted Bharat Biotech co-founder and co-managing director, Suchitra Ella.

However, the company did not receive details about the stock, such as the amount of doses provided to the states.

Bharat Biotech announced prices for Covaxin on April 24. It set the price of Covaxin at Rs 600 per dose for state governments.

However, it later lowered the price to Rs 400. This comes after Serum Institute of India (SII) lowered the price of Covishield to Rs 300 from Rs 400 earlier.

The two vaccine manufacturers reduced prices after the central government allegedly made a request to them amid the battle over different prices for the central and state governments.

For private hospitals, Bharat Biotech has set the price at Rs 1,200 per dose. This is twice the cost set for Covishield.

Bharat Biotech is likely to continue supplying supplies to the center at the same price, but SII wants to review it to 400 million.

Both Bharat Biotech and SII have announced that they are reserving 50 percent of their production capacity for supplies to the central government.
