Some of BJP’s top leaders, including PM Narendra Modi and general secretary (organization) BL Santhosh, also did not forget the greatness of the outgoing chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Sarma too did not fail to express his gratitude to his predecessor Sonowal, whom he referred to as a “great CM,” and “an incredible mentor.”
Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while expressing confidence that Sarma will continue the “good work” of Sonowal, praised the outgoing CM for his “grace during transition.”

His contribution towards Assam’s progress and strengthening the party in the state is immense.”
Sonowal, too, was among the first to congratulate Sarma on Twitter apart from being personally present at the swearing-in ceremony. “Congratulations to Shri @himantabiswa on being elected the leader of @BJP4Assam Legislative Party. I believe that you will carry forward the development journey of Assam that we together began as #TeamAssam under the leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi ji,” Sonowal tweeted, which received a worthy reply from Sarma.
