CHENNAI: The AIADMK legislature party on Monday unanimously elected former chief minister and party joint coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami as its leader, paving the way for him to be the leader of the opposition in the Tamil Nadu assembly. The decision came after three hours of discussions at the party headquarters in Royapettah. “EPS has been chosen by the legislature party,” said a leader. The party would shortly communicate the decision to the assembly secretariat. The leader of the opposition must be chosen by Tuesday night since the Speaker-elect will have to be taken to the chair on Wednesday by chief minister and leader of the opposition. The party had a nearly three-hour-long meeting on Friday but failed to arrive at consensus as AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam and EPS were staking claim for the post. Panneerselvam left the party headquarters immediately after the legislature party meeting on Monday.
