Warangal police headquarters working against snail’s pace

Warangal Urban: The construction of the state’s second largest police headquarters in Warangal, which includes an integrated command control center and public intervention facility, is moving against snail’s pace for reasons best known to police department officials.

Warangal Police Commissariat has been in dire need of an administrative building since it started operating from 12 June 2015. The foundation stone for the establishment of the police headquarters was laid on 29 May 2017, with an estimated cost of 50 million. However, the construction of the building has so far only reached the basement level.

Although the police headquarters building is not as large as the Hyderabad headquarters under construction, the seven-storey spacious building is planned on five hectares of land intended for the office of the commissioner, the office of the deputy commissioner of the police, the city’s special branch, City Crime Record Bureau, armed reserve, communications and city security wings.

Talk to Telangana Today, an official said the construction of Siddipet Commissariat, Khammam Commissariat and Warangal Urban Collectorate which started almost the same time has been completed. “The Siddipet and Khammam commissioner buildings have already been inaugurated,” he added.

Here it can be noted that Commissariat has a command area of 5672 square km with a population of about 23 lakh. Reportedly, the contracting agency almost stopped the works because they had ‘heavy costs’ due to digging the foundation with a rocky site. Warangal Police Commissioner Tarun Joshi did not respond to a request for comment.
