Guwahati: The leader of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Himanta Biswa Sarma, was sworn in as the 15th Prime Minister of Assam in place of former Prime Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at 12 noon on Monday.
Sarma, who was the chariot of Bharatiya Janta party’s step in the northeast, was sworn in in the presence of State Governor Jagdish Mukhi, the national president of BJP JP Nadda and other leaders.
Himanta Biswa selected for the role after an important meeting was led by BJP chief JP Nadda in Delhi on Sunday.
The BJP storms back to power in the important Northeastern state that retains its grip on the government.
Sarma was known to have played a crucial role in the growing footprint of the BJP in the Northeast, and left Congress in 2015, despite being close to Prime Minister Tarun Gogoi because he was ousted.
The popularity of the minister was paramount in the victory of the National Democratic Alliance in the Assembly polls with the alliance coming back to power to overcome the tough challenge that the Congress-led alliance had. on various matters in the state with a diverse population with sometimes competing interests.
After being announced, State Minister Sarma took to Twitter to express his gratitude to the residents of the state.
“With the fragrance of Assam in my heart and the love for my wonderful people in my veins, I express my sincere thanks to you all. I would not have been what I was if it were not for your pious faith in me. “On this day, I promise to work with & for each of you with greater passion Assam,” he tweeted.
In another tweet, he thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said: ‘This is the biggest day of my life, and I so cherish your grace. I assure you that we will leave no stone unturned to advance your vision to take Assam and NE to greater heights. ”
