Italians rarely rock beards even dating back as far as the Roman era. Caesar, Augustus, Caligula, Pompey, Mark Antony etc never rocked any beards. The only one I can think of off the top of my head that rocked a beard is Marcus Aurelius.

Because when they grow beards they look Muslim / Arab and Italians are insecure about whether they're white or not. They get rustled when you point out how Africans occupied Sicily for centuries.

Italian MMA fighter Alessio Sakara rocks a good beard, Pacino rocked a great beard at times, Vincent Gallo rocks a beard often times, there are a lot of Italians and Italian-Americans that sport beards.
