Nagpur: A team from Nagpur Municipal Corporation health department on Monday conducted RT-PCR test on over 50 people who had violated Covid protocols at a marriage ceremony. A mobile testing van was deployed at Surendra Nagar in Lalganj area under Satranjipura zone for collecting the swab samples.
Ravikant Delikar, sanitary inspector of Rapid Response Team from Prabhag 21, Satranjipura Zone, said that three days back the nuisance detection squad (NDS) had slapped a fine of Rs50,000 on Harban Singh Samundre family for organizing a marriage ceremony where Covid-19 guidelines were not followed. “Over 200 people had attended the ceremony,” said Delikar.
Majority of the guests were not wearing masks and no physical distancing was maintained during the celebrations that continued post-midnight.
Sources said members of the Samundre family tried to argue with NMC team which did not budge. The team also asked all those who attended the ceremony to undergo the RT-PCR test on Monday.
Harban Singh Samundre, father of the groom, said that he has realized his mistake and asked all family members, relatives and friends to cooperate with the NMC team and get RT-PCR test done.
Nityanand Langote, another sanitary inspector who was present when swab samples of the people who attended the ceremony were taken, said, “Tests were conducted for more then 50 people on Monday. Test of some people who had gone to work would be done tomorrow,” he said.
