Odisha cabinet approves global tender for covid vaccines to expedite vaccination programme

Bhubaneswar, May 10 (UNI) In a major decision the Odisha cabinet chaired by Chief Minister
Naveen Patnaik today approved a proposal to issue a global tender for procurement of
Covid vaccine from major companies.
The Cabinet decided to constitute a technical committee to ensure speedy vaccination of
people prone to the infection, save valuable lives and help in restoration of livelihood of the
people.
The State cabinet has approved to issue a global tender for procurement of Covid vaccine
to expedite the vaccination programme in the state.
Vaccination is known to be very fruitful in minimising the complication of the diseases and
saving the life of the patient. Though the people who have taken the shots are being infected
but its impact is noticed to be very minimal
The State cabinet further expressed its gratitude to the people of the state for their
cooperation in various Covid fighting measures such as testing, tracing, vaccination
and lockdown.
The Cabinet took the decision as a country like Israel which has vaccinated a major
portion of its population is now returning to normalcy.
Official sources said the state government is committed to ensuring the supply chain
of vaccines , protecting the safety of the people and to bring normalcy to the state soon.
The state government has urged the centre to waive all kinds of taxes on vaccines so
that it would lighten the burden on the state economy and help in the universalisation of
vaccination programmes in the state.
The cabinet said the fight against Covid is a long battle. It said the centre needs to share
the additional resources it collected through different kinds of cess and surcharges equitably
with the states.
It will strengthen the economy of the states during this tough period in the fight against
Covid.
The state government has already announced its resolve to strengthen its fight against
Covid and to provide proper treatment to covid patients utilising its resources .
The cabinet appreciated the sincerity and dedication of Covid warriors in fighting against
Covid-19 and urged people to follow covid guidelines like proper wearing of masks, hand
washing, maintain social distancing, stay home and not to step out unless it is badly
required.
